After a study by government on how to involve more locals in the industry and largely through the leadership of then PEPD Director, Mr Ernest Rubondo, UgOilAndGas.com was born.
The Association is for everyone that wants to participate in Oil and Gas despite of gender, age, origin, race, status in the society and political affiliation.
We believe that together, we can make Oil useful to the people of Uganda through building strong corporate companies that are both competitive and responsive to the industry needs.
Our main message to our members has always been to encourage them to train, skill and certify their staff, premises and goods. We know that in order to play an active role in the industry, one has to meet the stringent standards that are both universal and international.
Our membership is composed of both local/indigenous companies as well as multi-national companies. We always encourage our members to seek for partnerships, joint ventures and collaborations that will improve them and make them more competitive in the market.
As the secretariat, we have participated in many capacity building projects aimed at improving on the quality and standards of service delivery among our members. We have trained and certified sixty (60) employees form thirty (30) member companies with HSE NEBOSH. We have also trained Thirty Six (36) business owners and senior managers on industry HSE procedures and requirements.
We also trained Eight Hundred Ninety Seven (897) farmers and small scale businesses on basic book keeping, basic accounting, basic record keeping, basic contract negotiation and invoicing. The participants were drawn from the districts of Nwoya, Masindi, Hoima, Buliisa and Biiso. We plan to have more of these trainings.
I would like to thank the board and especially the founder members, Petroleum Authority of Uganda, the Petroleum Directorate, International Oil Companies, ministry of energy staff and everyone that has made this journey so far bearable to our members.
We believe that with the next stage of the industry on our doorsteps, there’s a lot we can accomplish together.
To quote one of Africa’s icons, Nelson Madiba Mandela, “A bright future beckons. The onus is on us, through hard work, honesty and integrity, to reach for the stars.”
